Making GoDaddy e-mail work with Apple Mail
If you’ve tried to configure your free GoDaddy.com domain e-mail address with Apple’s OS X Mail, you’ll find it’s not the most straightforward thing in the world. There’s also not a whole lot of options for support. I recently found settings that work marvelously with Apple’s OS X Mail, and would like to share them here.
Account Type: POP
Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
User Name: full email address
Password: (your password)
Under the Advanced Tab
Port: 110
Use SSL: Not checked
Authentication: password
Outgoing Mail Server: smtpout.secureserver.net
Server port: 80
SSL: not checked
Authentication: Password
User Name: (user name from GoDaddy.com)
Password: (your password)
That should work! Good luck!

thanks.

I can confirm it does work too - although it took me a long time to make it work - until i realised I had forgotten to switch on the “Send mail by SMTP” in the GoDaddy email control panel! Once that’s done it works fine.

It’s much easier on the latest versions of the Mac (we have Tiger, OS X.4 which isn’t that new even) and most of the options are automated and it checks each stage as you do it, so if you’ve made a mistake, you know where it is - the bliss of modern computers!
Thanks for the advice with the old Mac - I need to help a friend also with GoDaddy and I’ll forward him the link.

Where exactly is the send mail by SMTP in go-daddy?
May 8th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Thanks so much for posting this!!! My mail is once again flowing. The instuctions online at Godaddy were of no help. Calling customer service was a complete waste of time. The fellow at Godaddy refused to help saying ‘just use web mail’…..dolt. Once again the Mac community provides for its own.

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and tips. I had trouble with the original suggestion from Andrew. So I combined what he wrote with what Paul had to contribute. This is what I got. In case you’re in a bind, I hope this works!
Account Type: POP
Incoming Mail Server: pop.secureserver.net
User Name: full email address (username@domain)
Password: (your password for this email account)
Under the Advanced Tab
Port: 995 (I don’t know if this might be because of my ISP, or if these settings are by default)
Use SSL: checked
Authentication: choose password
Outgoing Mail Server: smtpout.secureserver.net
Server port: 3535
SSL: not checked
Authentication: (your password for this email account)
User Name: full email address (username@domain)
Password: (your password for this email account)

Richie, I am trying to set up an account in the Apple Mail program, but I am running into problems before the steps that you have suggested with the advanced tab. When I get to the screen in the account setup process that asks me to provide the outgoing mail server, there is no way for me to get the account set up because it won’t even connect to the smtpout.secureserver.net. What is the next step that I need to take to have this setup complete? I am not relying on the useless godaddy tech support for this. They have wasted all too much of my time. Thanks for the help

Let the Mail Wizard time out through its auto-configuration. Don’t cancel out of it. You can continue your way through, it just takes a couple of minutes per Wizard time-out. Then, you can get into Mail’s Preferences’ Accounts, and select the godaddy account of interest and change the smtp server information there.

thanks jv….i was able to actually go in and change the settings for a different (gmail) POP account to make this the account for the godaddy email. Now I am getting an error message when I try to send email from this godaddy account that says “Cannot send message using hte server smtpout,secureserver.net” and prompting me to select another outgoing mail server. What have I done now that is not enabling this to work for me? Thanks for the help!

I found a couple of things - - this and this concerning setting up smtp mail out of Mail.app. Looks like there is a “manage my godaddy account” webpage where you have to enable the ability to use a mail client (I’m personally not familiar with that aspect of things because I don’t have godaddy mail). Have you done that?

I’m trying to set up my go daddy email on entourage and after following all of the suggestions listed above, I still find myself getting the following error message:
-the server does not support secure connections…
I also can’t find the “send mail by smtp”
I need help!
Thank you

Another pitfall to watch out for: Make sure that godaddy has set up relays for your outgoing mail. Mine somehow had zero relays, and one perceptive tech guy at godaddy (of four lackluster ones) caught this and fixed it.

THANK YOU !!!!!
I called go-daddy tech support on this and the s**t on the phone said that it was Apple Mail’s problem because the do “weird things”. I was like WTF it works fine with my other accounts. Thanks to this forum I learned what was wrong. For anyone that still needs help do the following
Log on to Go Daddy’s web site
Select the email menu at the top and select “My Email Account”
Click on Manage account under “control Panel”
This will open up Email Control Center (version 1.2 as I write this)
Click on the email address.
Five sections down there is an SMTP Relaying option for some dumbass reason this is not set.
I had the option to select 250
Click OK on the bottom of the page
You will then go back to the Email Control Center page and you account will state that it’s pending
I waited about two minutes then in Apple Mail I went to Window->Connection Doctor and it stated that it could log into smtp
I then successfully sent an email
YEAH!!!!
Now if I could only meet the go-daddy tech support person and kick their arse for not noticing this.
Sorry for the cursing, I spend too much time mucking with this. Oh and the funny thing is they state “Bypass ISP restrictions”. What crock. I have five accounts that I use with Apple Mail all through port 25. My ISP isn’t blocking anything.
Time to look for a different hosting company
October 13th, 2007 at 9:34 am
Ken, thanks for your comment. Actually, quite a few ISPs *do* in fact block port 25. It’s an ineffective technique meant to require their customers to use their SMTP servers only, a control with the worthy goal of reducing spam sent from their networks.
Hoping to help people suffer fewer experiences like yours helped inspire this blog, our free http://www.machelpforum.com, and our email hosting company, 01.com.

wow this forum was really helpful, thanks guys.

Thank you so much! GoDaddy was no help at all in this matter and you came along and saved the day.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
With leopard the placement of the settings changed. To set up the outgoing mail, You have to select ‘edit server list’ from the menu next to ‘outgoing mail server’. Then select advanced tab. From there you set the outgoing server port to 80 and select authenticate using username and password.
The incoming port (not specified) is found by clicking ‘advanced tab’ next to mailbox behavior. Set that to 110 and you’re in bidness.
Go daddy tech support actually hooked me up in seconds with this after fumbling with it forever.

This solve my problem. I knew that the SMPT port needed to be set to 80 but i couldn’t figure out how to set it.
Thanks!

To add to my last note, I have notice when you input
smtpout.secureserver.net
if you still have problems, try adding (.) on the end like this
smtpout.secureserver.net. you will see it works… I don’t know why

Hi, just wondering if someone could help out…
My boss says he has his Mac mail configured to receive his GoDaddy email. However, he says that every night he has to go in to the webmail (GoDaddy) and manually delete his emails so they don’t fill up his inbox limit amount because Mac mail is not pulling the emails from the server. Anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it? Thanks so much for the help!
February 10th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
You guys & gals ROCK! Thanks everyone!
February 10th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
heather: I believe (and please someone correct me if I’m wrong) you should be able to go into the “web-based email” account, select settings -> display settings -> other and then check the “use f/t SSL mode” box to fix that.
February 11th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Tim thanks for that. I changed the incoming port in the “advanced tab” to 110 and I was in bidness.
February 12th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
FYI, I just spent two days and multiple calls with Apple & GoDaddy techs trying to get Mac mail to play nice with GoDaddy. In the end a GoDaddy tech figured out I was on the “old” system at GoDaddy what ever that means. With a few keystrokes, he put me on the “new” system and everything work fine instantly.
February 15th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Thank you. It works now! (about 5 hours of messing about).
It was Tim’s post about port 110 that did the trick!
Regards!!

Here is the combination that worked for me:
[Go to Mail > Accounts]
Account Type: POP
Description: My Mail (or whatever you prefer)
Email Address: yourname@yourdomain.com
Full Name: Alexandre Dumas
Incoming Mail Server: pop.secureserver.net
User Name: (your email address)
Password: (your email password)
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtpout.secureserver.net
[click on Server Settings] tab beneath this
Server Port: 80
SSL: unchecked
Authentication: Password
User Name: (your email)
Password: (your email password)
[back to Accounts window]
[click on Advanced tab]
Port: 110
Use SSL: unchecked
Authentication: Password
Hope this helps!

Thank you all for the info…you have saved me a lot of time.
I do have one question. I have successfully checked my mail and sent mail using mail.app with my godaddy domain… the problem is that the emails I send from this account to my other accounts are not showing up (even after waiting an hour or so). I am receiving other emails just fine. When I use godaddy’s web-mail, the emails I send to my other accounts are received immediately.
Any ideas on what the issue might be? Anyone having the same problem?
Thanks again all!
March 15th, 2008 at 10:01 am
wow, I have been struggling with that for about… uh two months! that unchecking the SSL I think did the trick for me… yay!
Thanks guys!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Those yahoo’s at Godaddy were no help at all.

Hello everybody, my name is Damion, and I’m glad to join your conmunity,
and wish to assit as far as possible.
March 23rd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Ok. I have been trying this now for about 4 months. When I first got Leopard I had no problem using Mail. All of a sudden the error read that outgoing mail did not accept password. I have tried every combination of setup with no luck!
Is anyone else still having a problem with this?
March 25th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Thank you Adam Dorrell!
Your message was the clue that I needed. If all else fails, use the Godaddy Email Control to make a new SMTP Relay account user and password, and use that in your email preferences instead of the default “myname@mydomain.com”
I have to say, I really liked my Godaddy support guy, Jason M. It was he who sent me this thread, after patiently and cheerfully walking me through every possible variation he could think of.
So although he didn’t solve the problem directly, he gave me the clue I needed to figure it out myself.
Thanks Jason!
